"Live music is better" ~ Neil Young
Are you looking for something to do Friday night's? Do you like live music? Do you like wine? If you answer "yes" to any of those then you're in luck because now through October, Pomar Junction Vineyard & Winery hosts a wine and concert event every other Friday from 5:30pm until sunset called "Train Wreck Friday". The event is free for wine club members and one guest, or $15 per person for non-members. The event includes wine tasting, wine sold by the glass or bottle, food for purchase, and great music from local bands.
I attended the last Train Wreck with my friends Julia and Colleen. We arrived shortly after 5:30pm with our lawn chairs in tow. The band, Burning James and The Funky Flames, had already started to play so we picked out a spot on the grass under a tree.
The band, a funk and soul group, sounded really good. They sang a lot of covers from such artists as Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, and Rolling Stones. Their music is very danceable and many people got up to shake their groove thing. I passed; I'm more of a chair dancer as I have zero rhythm and coordination, and tend to fall over a lot.
The evening was perfect ~ it had been warm during the day and tonight was turning into one of those perfect north county evenings with a light breeze and temperature not yet dropping to the point where you needed a sweater.
After staking out our area and setting up our chairs, we mosied over to the food. Stein's BBQ was there to provide food, as they regularly do at Pomar Junction events.
If you're not interested in purchasing food from Stein's, you can also a bring your own picnic meal to enjoy. If I go again, I might bring a little basket of cheese, meats, and crackers, just to mix it up a bit.
I ordered the tri tip nachos and, I kid you not, they had to weigh 10 pounds. It was ridiculously heavy! Colleen ended up ordering the same thing and we probably just should've shared. Holy cow, this was huge!!!!
We also ordered a couple of bottles of wine ~ their new 2016 Rose and their sparkling. (Really, any occasion is worthy of a bottle of sparkling). One advantage of being a wine club member, in addition to free entrance into events like these, is getting a discount on any bottle purchase. It's definitely a nice perk.
The three of us had a lot of fun, enjoying wine and listening to good music. We also had fun taking silly pictures around the winery. They have a beautiful vineyard back drop and fun things around the property like an old truck and train cars.
The next Train Wreck is this coming Friday, June 2nd. You can find the entire Train Wreck Friday schedule on Pomar Junction's website.
Check it out, it's a fun evening. I recommend getting there early to stake out a table on the patio or to get a good spot on the lawn.
